Why

I think it needs to be made clear at the onset of something, to make it clear why that something needs to be. Well, at least for me anyways.

To be perfectly frank, and I know I’m just speaking into the void of the internet, this is a place to explore the ‘Why’ of things.

The why we work, live, develop relationships, buy things, sell things, like certain things and not others.

To give you some context, I’m a married white male in my late 20’s who was born in New Zealand and grew up in a white middle class family and community in Australia. You might say that I have no right to be speaking on some of the things following on from this. You may be right. But I’m trying to explore these questions.

Why have I been given so much, while others so little? I honestly have no idea, so I pose this question. What is my responsibility with what I have been given?

I lived as a missionary’s kid in the Solomon Islands during my high school years. These years were very formative for me. It showed me that there wasn’t really anything special as to why I was born where I was. I didn’t do anything special or achieve some prerequisite to get all these great things I was (and still do) take for granted. Why I had access to education and healthcare, whereas a lot of my friends couldn’t get the education they desired and some died because they didn’t get basic healthcare.

As a young, white, married, middle class male, who is ranked in the top 5% of the worlds wealthiest, what should my response be to poverty, injustice, inequality and the hatred I see around me?

Anyway, there is probably more questions than answers in that.

But that is kinda the point, isn’t it?
